The Park Neighbourhood Watch Street Schemes

Neighbourhood Watch street schemes in the The Park area will be run by registered members through the NPEL and will supported by the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team and The Park Neighbourhood Watch.

Schemes can vary in size.  A volunteer resident Street Co-ordinator supervises the scheme and liaises with the Police in meetings usually hosted by the NPEL.  They receive information and messages to keep them in touch with activities, and some may have marker kits, alarms and other security items, which are available to members.  It must be recognised that the street scheme is a community initiative, which is supported by the NPEL and the Police, but not run by them.  So success depends on what you 'our' members make of it.

The Police and The NPEL cannot deal with the problems and issues arising from crime and anti-social behaviour alone; they need the help of the whole community within The Park.  Neighbourhood Watch provides a way for local people to play an important part in addressing this balance and making their communities safer.

The Park Neighbourhood Watch Street Co-ordinator
The role of The Park Neighbourhood Watch Street Co-ordinator is to set up and/or maintain a Neighbourhood Watch scheme within The Park Neighbourhood Watch scheme.  You will need to contact the NPEL to clarify what is involved and the initial steps to take.  Whilst each Neighbourhood Watch Street Co-ordinator may develop their own specific procedures, the following are suggested as the main duties which Street Co-ordinators will need to manage.

  • Encourage vigilance among street scheme members and actively encourage the early reporting of suspicious incidents and anti-social behaviour to The Police, using this website.
  • Receive crime information from the The Park Neighbourhood Watch website and possibly Ringmaster messaging system and distribute these messages to the street scheme members.
  • Encourage street scheme members to be aware of and put into practise crime prevention measures, such as property marking and security devices.
  • Keep a check on vulnerable households and provide advice to members about dealing with callers at the door.
  • Circulate newsletters and other relevant information to your street scheme members.
  • Welcome newcomers to the neighbourhood/area and invite them to be part of the street scheme.
  • Supply each street scheme member with Neighbourhood Watch and crime prevention literature, such as Neighbourhood Watch window stickers and incident report cards.

If you are interested in setting up a street scheme or would simply like more information to consider, please contact The NPEL Office or simply upgrade your account to a full scheme when logged in.
